Quotations for Artists and Nature Lovers
I love this one by Claude Monet. (Everyone loves Claude Monet, right?) Just like the people who seek to understand Monet's work, I find myself falling into the pattern of analyzing and analyzing my experiences. Perhaps it's a way of gathering information for future decisions. However, he seems to point out, viewing art and making art is believing that we are as much creatures of rational thinking as we are creatures of love. It teaches us to appreciate the vast array of seeing, thinking, and experiencing that exist in our world. It asks us to embrace complexity without ordering it or breaking it down into simpler terms.

“Art should be like a holiday: something to give a man the opportunity to see things differently and to change his point of view.” -Paul Klee |
I found this cartoon in a uchicago magazine for alums. Most content in there is très fancy, but I loved this down-to-earth image. It really spoke to me because I definitely feel very much in the middle: a realist. However, I often find myself wanting to go back to the first stage. I know people in the third stage too! Which stage are you (generally) in? Idealist, realist, surrealist?

We should all do what we love in our lives. It seems so simple, but I find it challenging. Thankfully we have each other for inspiration and support. It inspires me to see others doing the exact, specific thing they like, even and especially if there is no pre-defined label or box for their work. If you're doing what you love, keep up the good work! You are a shining light to us all. If you're on your way there, awesome!
